Legends of Basketball

I went to Penryn, California elementary school and the animal spirit for the sports teams is the panther. The panther spirit has come to me multiple times throughout my life and dreams because I am so deeply attached to the spirit world, by the way I experienced my childhood. Elementary school is where you learn all the basics, not only about learning books and arithmetic, but games and strategy as well.(maybe even friendships and how to be a friend as well.)

At my school, we had several sports to play such as running, basketball and marching. I know that I tried all of them. I won a bunch of 1st, 2nd and third place ribbons for track team and then I tried basketball after that. We played for weeks and slowly all my female friends started leaving to go to band and try other groups. I was having so much fun that I didn't really notice until we got to the day of try outs and then there was a bunch of adults setting us up to tasks, such as free throws, running and strategy. I remember I made every free throw shot and got everyone really excited and I was the only girl that made the team but, my mother was a drug addict and wouldn't take us to school for weeks sometimes, so I missed out, but I eventually went on to dance and acting. I still never forget how exciting basketball is though.

The game itself is set up by a series of simple rules, which consist in acting out simple designs, patterns and shapes, in cooperation with team mates, yourself and even the opposing team in a way. The ball itself is very geometric in design. Geometric is defined as simple shapes and rules bounded by lines and direction. The art of basketball itself is legendary and the concept has been replayed over time.

The official design of the basketball was created in 1891, but prior to, there has always been games which involve gathering together several team mates and opposing to match the symmetry of balance and distinction. The goal is to get the most points, which one does by getting more shots than the people on the other team, who can add up points against you for every time they get the one ball into the hoop.

There are two hoops, one at either end and each team takes ownership over the space. There is a home team, which has the advantage, because they are on the court of where they practice and play every day, so their are certain rules in place, each decided by a referee to whom the ball will go and judged by the fairness of each person playing. Each one is kept track of by numbers, which are displayed on sports jerseys to show individuality, as well as the wholeness of the teams spirit. The points are displayed on lit up scoreboards as well.

The point of basketball was to keep the body in shape and the mind flowing. In the winter time, usually the weather is bad outdoors- so basketball became a very good idea for many people to enjoy each other's company in a social setting, as a physical activity, as gymnasiums are warm, indoors and have heaters and locker rooms with warm showers and privacy! The first sports basket hoops were made out of peach buckets!

So, when I was thinking about my childhood memories as I explored my elementary school again for spiritual answers of healing and love, I saw Justin
Bieber was playing basketball on his social media page and so it reminded me. So, I put the pics in here and I also think its uncanny how he has a song called "Peaches" and the first basket balls hoops were made out of peach baskets.

When I was in HS, I was a varsity cheerleader all four years as rhythm and physical activity are natural for me and something that brings me great pleasure to work on, for my body, mind and spirit. I got to cheer on my team and see the game from another perspective, build up my friendships with the other dancers and we had alot of fun too. The half time shows were the funnest, when we could show everyone our original stunts, dance moves and cheers!!

Cheerleaders get to make up their own words to their cheers and dances as well. When I was a cheerleader, there was a big controversy to whether it was a sport or spiritual activity. Although the school could fund certain items, for the most part, we had to buy our own shoes and gears. But, we had really good coaches who taught us how we could work together and raise money for certain things as well.
