On the Heels of Lance Armstrong: Mathew Reyes and Haley Gable

I remember the days when I used to take my 10-speed bike and ride my bike all over Capitol Mall and downtown Sacramento or I would take the bicycling trek that many take on Frank Seymour Park in Greenhaven. I only wonder how seven- time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong felt when he started his long trek from Sacramento on the Amgen Tour of California? I guess Lance Armstrong has inspired many people and I only wonder if he also inspired Mathew Reyes and Haley Gable as they prepare on Sunday to take their trek together from Half Moon Bay to San Diego, traveling on the Western coast trail known as Highway #1 – the Pacific Coast Highway.
Haley always liked biking, she seeks the adventure, she loves meeting new people and she embraces the culture of each town she visits while bicycling. She has practiced over and over again, by bicycling 50 miles almost on a daily basis. She practices on the American River Parkway and at times goes from Carmichael to the Folsom Dam and back.
Mathew practices his bicycling on a daily basis and his record is 39 miles in one day. Mathew believes there is a lot more out there and bicycling for him is an adventure. In his life, he wants to make a difference, to step out of the box and take on new challenges. Mathew’s philosophy is that he does not believe man was made to clock in and out from their daily routines, he believes God wants us to interact with people, to embrace life and live life to the fullest.
Mathew does not plan to stop in San Diego, he will leave his friend Haley and start trekking cross- country from San Diego to Palm Beach, Florida. He believes it will take him 10 to 11 days to get from Half Moon Bay to San Diego and it will take him 2 to 3 months to get from San Diego to Palm Beach, Florida. He will be carrying a lot of bottled water and stopping here and there to eat. His friends are concerned about his bicycling trek through the desert and bought him an Amtrak ticket to cross the desert. Mathew also wants to stop at many churches along his way and assist various churches with minimal tasks. It’s a way to give back to the community in whole.
When he arrives to Florida, he plans to sell his bike and fly back home, ending an adventure that he has dreamed about most of his life. I asked Mathew if he will blog his adventure and he tells me ‘no’, but he plans to let his friends and family know how he is doing via Facebook. He also plans to take a lot of pictures! His mother Chantal Apodaca is very proud of her son and was smiling ear-to-ear as she listened to Mathew talk about his upcoming adventure. Mathew took the time to show his mother the map in which he routed his cross-country trek.
After this adventure is completed, Haley plans to return to school, her major is either public or business administration. Her goal is to become an administrator for some large company. She has worked as a crime analyst for the Roseville Police Department and she has also worked at the DMV. Mathew plans to start his own pool business and wants to call it MC Pools. He also wants to finish school and get his life back on track.
I wish them both the best. The journey will soon begin. Go forward and look ahead. Stay focused and you both will succeed!

CRYSTAL RATCLIFFE: A WICCAN’S GHOST STORY
Date: June 29, 2011 – Location of Meeting: Dennys – 1322 Howe Ave, Sacramento, CA
On January 1976 in Long Meadow, Massachusetts, Crystal was 16 years old at the time. She was traveling from North Hampton, MA to Long Meadow and got caught in a horrible snow storm. She was only able to travel 10 to 15 mph. When she was going up her home street, the driver saw her recently deceased grandmother. The apparition was so real, it looked exactly like her grandmother as if she was alive. Crystal was amazed at the sighting. The grandmother was sitting in her special chair looking out the window. Crystal tells her grandmother that she in okay and she vanished and was never seen again.

Marilyn's mother Alice Claar had a very strange paranormal experience. Alice may have been gifted with ESP to foretell certain events in her life. In one incident, a picture of a soldier fell to the ground. The soldier was her personal friend. She later learned that the exact date and time the picture fell, the soldier depicted in the picture had died at the same date and time. Talk about uncanny! The soldier was serving his duties during World War II.
