Suicide Bridge

A fitting song for this article is The End by the Doors, hear it here:

This coming spring, I want to bring a team of investigators to Foresthill Bridge aka Suicide Bridge. Some people have compared Foresthill Bridge as a mini-version of the Aokigahara Forest (Japan's Suicide Forest).

To see a video of the Aokigahara Forest, stop by here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CK1KdAha78

I interviewed two people from my Facebook readers, here is what they had to say:

"Hi my name is David, please do not use my last name for this article. Hey..thanks for adding me as a friend. I used to belong to the now defunct Colfax Paranormal Commando Center. We did an investigation at Foresthill Bridge. We obtained 7 EVPs and we saw 2 full body apparitions. That place is very creepy late at night. One of the investigators was sitting on a log and then all of a sudden he received a 3 inch scratch on the back of his neck, he started screaming. That pretty much ended the investigation. Good luck investigating this area. You will find a lot of activity."

"My name is John Hector from San Bruno. A couple of my friends were planning to do a sneak bungee jump from this bridge. Actually we did manage to do one jump and the police came. My friends and I saw a flying orb and it darted all around us and then flew into the sky. It was the weirdest damn thing I ever saw. 6 of us saw this flying orb!"

So from the statements above, I believe we are going to find all kinds of activity at Suicide Bridge. I placed one of my HPI Paranormal Investigators (Karen Stanley) on the case and this is what she found:

Hi Paul,
Not sure if you want these, but here is the link anyway. Smile

Here is the information so far on the Foresthill Bridge, pictures can be found here :

https://s1211.photobucket.com/albums/cc421/stanleykd/Foresthill%20Bridge/

The bridge is 730 feet high and spans 2,428 feet long. The piers are only 16 feet shorter than those of the Golden Gate Bridge. It is the highest bridge in CA and the 4th highest in the U.S. The bridge was constructed as a replacement for the (previously) existing Auburn-Foresthill Bridge. The bridge opened for public use on Labor Day 1973.

It was built to span Auburn Lake, the reservoir that would have backed up into the North and Middle Fork canyons of the American River behind the Auburn Dam, if it had ever been built.

It was used in the movies “XXX” with Vin Diesel and “The Ugly Truth”.

The “unofficial” suicide count is currently at 62.

Deaths include:
July 2007: Thomas Moore, 53, is believed to be the first to hang himself from the bridge.
October 2005: Bryon, 45, and Sallee Kincannon, 43, were believed to be the first couple to jump from the bridge. They also took their pet dog with them.
The most recent were Steven Alexander 51 of Auburn - October 7,2011, Mark Hinkle 42 of Auburn - Sept 6, 2011 and Dustin Granville 31 of Chico – Sept 5, 2011-11-06

It seems just about everyone in Auburn knows someone who has committed suicide by jumping off the bridge. I personally know a Physical Therapist I used to work with that had severe depression and committed suicide at the bridge. I have been unable, as of yet, to find anyone who has heard the bridge is haunted or heard any stories of hauntings.

In the past the bridge has been a favorite “party spot” for the teenage crowd. The bridge is pretty well patrolled by law enforcement now, so I don’t think it is as much of a teenage hangout as it was once was.

There is currently construction on the bridge. Improvements will include:

Seismic retrofit of the bridge
Painting
Miscellaneous work:
Replace the bridge rail
Striping lanes and sealing of the concrete deck
Construct new catwalk system for bridge maintenance
Logistics:

If we plan an investigation or a scouting mission, here is a great place to meet at first:

Starbucks:
Auburn Town Center
392 Elm Avenue
Auburn, CA 956034525
(530) 823-1528

Then to get to Suicide Bridge from Starbucks. Directions below:

From Starbucks:
Left on Elm (out of the parking lot)
Left on High St (2nd stoplight)
Merge Right on Hwy 49.
Go to the bottom of the canyon toward Foresthill
Parking will be on the left and right (across the bridge) – not the Foresthill bridge, the bridge that gets you across the river.
Total mileage from Starbucks: 3 miles
Bathrooms are available at the beginning of the trails.
This is part of the Auburn Recreation District. There are signs posted with park hours 8:00am – 6:00pm
There are two trails to get under the bridge, which put you on either side of the river.
Left side: Stagecoach trail , Right side: Clementine trail
I’m not sure of the exact distance to get under the bridge but it is an easy walk and less than ½ mile, probably closer to a ¼ mile.

Please let me know if this is the information you were looking for and if not, how I can improve. Let me know if you need anything else.

Thanks,

Karen D. Stanley

Karen: You did a fine job. I can only say one thing. 'Let's do this thing!' But, let's wait for good weather and let's do it in Spring 2012!

BELOW ARE HPI UPDATES, NEWS AND GOSSIP!

CANCELED:
Nov 11 Friday 9pm Terri: 916 308-7999/916 889 0309. Location to be at: 3347 Lerwick Road, Unit 3, Sacramento, CA 95821 Activity: There will be 2 units to explore. In the 2 units, in which the occupant has a key to both, strange things have been happening. The power is shut off in both units, but yet the lights and fans come on and there is no electricity. Both units will accommodate several investigators. She wants validation, no cleansing. SPECIAL NOTE: I sent over an electrician, he found faulty wiring that is connected to an alternate power source. Case solved. Debunked. Case closed.

Subject: Re: possible Demonic Case in Sutter, Ca
Hi Paul, I spoke to the family today and while I was on the phone with the grandmother, a male voice said something I couldn't understand and then a loud deep breath. Both of us heard it. I became confused and disoriented when I first called..felt like a psychic attack. I pushed through it and it backed off. Tonight, they are seeing alot of shadow figures in the house. I only know them as Natalie's mom and dad..super sweet people. 530-xxxxx is there home, cell is 530-xxxxxx. They are looking forward to you coming to investigate and hopefully removing whatever is there. The grandparents lost one son to murder and a daughter to brief illness within the past 3 years. They certainly need some peace. Blessing to you for helping them, let me know if there is anything else I can do to help, Sharon Pugh aka Medium Sharon
