Melissa Barger and Haunted Disneyland
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI General Manager

Before I start talking about the haunted activity at Disneyland, let me introduce you to the lovely Melissa Barger and her soon-to-be connection to Disneyland.

Melissa’s goal is to have an internship at Disneyland in the area of communications. Two dream areas for internship for Melissa is the Fortune 500 Company and of course Disneyland. Who wouldn’t want to work at Disneyland? I have a cousin in Anaheim that loves being an entertainer/employee of Disneyland. Melissa acquired her desire to work at Disneyland because she has many childhood memories of this wonderland of fairytale fantasies. She remembers enjoying the rides, seeing all of the Disney characters that stroll down Main Street in Disneyland. She wants to get involved with advertising and promotions for California Adventures. Melissa wants to talk and deal with the many journalists that visit Disneyland. Melissa tells me the atmosphere is great, the people of Disneyland are great and she would desire a full time, life time career at Disneyland as the Lead PR. Melissa, I hope your dream comes true and thank you for talking with me today. I hope you will get this exceptional career in promoting Disney movies and Disneyland, you definitely are very personable and cheerful. The perfect fit for Disneyland!

Melissa, as a paranormal investigator, one of my main goals is to investigate Disneyland for the reason of all of the reported activities of the paranormal. It is rumored that several ghosts haunt Disneyland. I can only wonder if the late Walt Disney knew that Disneyland would become haunted one day. I wonder if he would have ever created the Haunted Mansion; if he knew that there were some real ghosts in Disneyland?

Yes, Disneyland has a reputation of being haunted. The Haunted Mansion is supposed to have real ghosts inside. They say that the ride inside Haunted Mansion was re-designed because it caused a man to have a heart attack. This man supposingly haunts the Haunted Mansion. Another ghost is a man who was flying an airplane back in the 1940s and he crashed into a lake near Disneyland. Cast members of the Haunted Mansion call this ghost, the Man with the Cane. He is seen late at night after the Haunted Mansion has been closed for the rest of the night. Another entity of the Haunted Mansion is The Man in a Tuxedo. No one knows who this ghost is, but an employee was touched by this ghost and she was so terrified, she quit her job.

Another ghost is the Crying Boy of the Haunted Mansion. A woman scattered the ashes of her deceased son in the Haunted Mansion. This was not the place that her son wanted to be scattered at and now employees have seen a crying boy at the exit of the Haunted Mansion on various occasions.

A high school kid actually died in the Haunted Mansion. Disneyland sponsors Grad Night and when I graduated out of high school in 1973, I flew to Disneyland for Grad Night. Well, on one night…one Grad Night, two teenage boys wanted to get up close and personal in seeing the Séance Circle. One of those boys stepped off the Doombuggy and walked up on the black painted walkway and fell through a gap between the walkway and the platform. He fell to his death, fifteen feet, breaking his neck. My cousin that works at Disneyland makes claim that she saw this apparition. She says that when she was cleaning up near the Séance Circle that she saw a teenage boy walk through the table and then dissipate. This is the only paranormal activity she ever witnessed.

Special Note: These Venezuela girls that I met in Costa Rica were completely fascinated with Disneyland and wanted to know everything about Disneyland. Many tourists from other countries gravitate to Disneyland.

My cousin tells me that Walt Disney himself haunts Disneyland. She has talked with other employees who make claim that they saw Walt Disney near his old apartment that is over the Fire Station on Main Street. My cousin tells me that he does not like the lights being turned off in his apartment and every time this one employee would turn off the lights, Walt Disney the ghost would turn them back on. He finally whispered in the employee’s ear that he is still here. They now keep those lights on for Walt Disney.

There are even other ghosts in Disneyland. Lucy Malacchio, former employee says that she saw what she calls the Midget Phantom. She was cleaning up after hours at the Peter Pan ride and saw a midget ghost run across the floor three times. She believes that a midget entertainer that once worked at Disneyland, liked Disneyland so much, that when he died, he returned to the most happiest place in the world. Lucy says that she knows what she saw and she will always think of this ghost as the Midget Phantom.

So, now you see why I want to investigate Disneyland, it appears there is a lot of paranormal activity. No wonder so many people say: “I’m going to Disneyland!”

As I was leaving the coffee shop, I saw a good friend and she introduced me to her girlfriend Bernadette Lopez. Bernadette tells me that her home is haunted. Her grand-daughter has an imaginary friend that she calls ‘monster’. Her grand-daughter will interact with ‘monster’. Bernadette remembers on one night, she and her daughter could not sleep. On this night, books fell over; there was a loud banging in the basement. This sound resonated throughout the whole house; it was like a mini-sonic boom! When Bernadette and her daughter went to investigate, they found the wall mirror came off the wall, it was not broken and something slid the mirror under the door. They see black shadowy things throughout the house. Yes, they want their home investigated.

BELOW ARE HPI UPDATES, NEWS AND GOSSIP!

CRYSTAL WILLETT ON MARE ISLAND!
It’s April 14, 2012 and CV Paranormal was invited by HPI to join them on an investigation of Mare Island. We are so excited to visit such a historical area of Northern California.

Mare Island is a peninsula that runs along the city of Vallejo. Originally occupied by the Patwin, Native American descendants of the Miwok-Costanoans Indians. Historians believe the Native American presence on the island dates back 2000 years. In 1775, a Spanish explorer named Perez Ayala became the first European to land on what would become Mare Island. This area was part of Rancho Suscol and was deeded to General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo in 1844. Originally named Isla de la Plana by Ayala, the island became a waypoint for early settlers. In 1835, while traversing the Carquinez Strait, a ferry transporting men and livestock was capsized in a squall. Among the livestock on board was Mexican Commandante General Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo’s prized white mare. Several days later General Vallejo’s mare was found on the island, having saved herself by swimming ashore during the squall. Vallejo renamed the island in her honor to Isla de la Yegua, Mare Island.

Our investigation began about 3:00 and CV Paranormal roll call is as follows:
Crystal Willett (Founder/Sensitive) Sherry Andersen Photographer/Investigator), Becky Smallwood (Case Manager/Investigator), Gemma Shehorn (Researcher/Investigator), Chris Willett (Tech Specialist/Investigator) Joey Simeao (Head Tech Specialist/Investigator), Dave Shehorn (Tech Specialist/Sensitive).
We met up with HPI and other groups as well including East Bay Paranormal and SoulSeekers. We would like to Thank Carolann Castro for setting up the investigation. We would also like to say Thank You to Myrna Hayes, President and Preserve Manager of the Mare Island Heritage Trust for being such a gracious hostess.
First we all posed for the famous HPI Group Shot. Special Thanks to Oscar Benjamin, reporter for the Examiner, for being our Photographer. Paul and Shannon updated us on all things HPI. Each team had a chance to introduce themselves and talk a little bit about what they are doing as a team. It was exciting to see people who are not affiliated with a team but came out as a family to take part in the investigation.

Paul gave us the low-down on the area, the cemetery and bunkers that were open to us for investigation. He also told us about experiences that have happened to people over the years, what to look for and the hot-spots where we might find good evidence.
It was still daylight so we decided to follow the rest of the group and to scout around with our new FLIR camera, the K2’s, voice recorders, digital cameras and video, intending to go back and gather the rest of the equipment for the night. So on up to the cemetery we hiked and found it very peaceful and serene. We were surprised to learn how many influential people were laid to rest there. While scouting the cemetery we found a connection near the upper left side.

I felt loving spirits in that area. So I got out the FLIR, a thermal imaging camera that we just purchased. Scanning around I noticed a hint of green a few feet away from an individual sitting with her companion on the wall in front of some gravesites that were set in such a way that told us they were obviously someone of significance. After a while the lady and her companion moved to another area Team CVP moved to the area to investigate it in earnest. We found the gravesites were of Anna, her husband and two children. Anna is a daughter of Francis Scott Key. Interesting enough being a pacifist, Mr. Key was forced to watch the battle of Fort Henry from a ship in the harbor. Immediately after the battle was over he wrote a poem called “Defense of Fort Henry” to tell of his experience. Upon finishing his poem, gave his copy to his brother-in-law, Judge J.H. Nicholson. Nicholson suggested the tune "Anacreon in Heaven" and had the poem printed, copies of which two survive today. First published in the Baltimore Patriot on September 20, 1814, it became known across the country as "Star-Spangled Banner." Eventually, Congress on March 3, 1931, made "Star-Spangled Banner" the official National Anthem of the United States.

Well Anna seemed to be happy to hear us talking about her family because through the FLIR we could see heat fluctuations coming from the stone covers of the graves. Through the FLIR we could see color would change from green to red to white and back to red, and watch the temperature change. The area was shaded and had no direct sunlight for at least 5 hours before we arrived. Sherry, Joey and Dave noticed when you placed your hand on the stone it felt hot enough to want to snatch their hand away afraid of getting burned but then immediately the stone would feel cooler but not cold, it always felt warm.

While sitting there we noticed we had a visitor. A wild turkey came walking through the area. She crossed over the fence in the back corner and strolled on her way. A short time later Sherry took a photo of a brown squirrel running along the top of the fence and jump over at the same spot the turkey went over. We decided it was time to grab a bite to eat then come back after dark and do some investigating. So the battle was on, the guys wanted Sonic, Sherry loves southern foods and Crystal being a southern gal wanted Popeye’s Chicken. Of course Crystal will go for spicy southern fried chicken and coleslaw every time. So Popeye’s it is. We had great food and customer service.

Once back to Mare Island we decided to head back to the cemetery to visit Anna and her family. We found another group in the area so we split in different directions to see what could be found. Becky and I wandered off to the left corner again to do an EVP session. While standing there our friend the wild turkey let out a call startling us and the other team. Laughing at everyone’s surprised exclamations we decided to head out toward the bunkers. While walking we listened to the recordings. We discovered we had captured a grunting / snorting noise. Becky and I were very surprised because we definitely had not heard that noise with our ears while there.

On our way to the bunkers we passed by HPI Founder Shannon McCabe who had called it a day. We all had a hug, said our goodbyes and expressed Thanks for being invited. CV Paranormal headed up to the bunkers and Wow! What a hike! The first one we found the recent rain had left it 2-3 inches thick with slimy slippery mud on the entrance floor. Not being dressed for the occasion and not wanting to muddy up Becky’s car, we headed for the next one. That one gave us an even bigger adventure just getting there. Thankful for our big strong guys and their help, we girl’s hitched up our Big Girl Britches and got ourselves inside. Cause that’s what we ladies of CV Paranormal do best, Hitch Em Up and make it happen!

From the markings and writing on the walls we found this bunker had been used to store ammunition and explosives. While filming with the full spectrum camera, the FLIR and recording for EVPS, Joey brought out his dowsing rods. He asked a couple of questions and did get solid responses. Then after one of his questions Sherry, Dave and I heard a voice say something. Unfortunately Becky and Gemma were going over their recordings with headphones on and did not hear or record it. Those of us that did hear the voice were unable to make out what the voice said. At that time we were the only ones in the area of those bunkers. Hopefully we got a recording of the voice on the video camera.

It was now time to go check in with the rest of the groups. So trekked our way back down to the Visitors Center, which is an amazing place. Upon our arrival we told Paul of our encounter in the cemetery with the FLIR. Paul was astounded as well. We told him of the EVP of the snort we had recorded. It was then Carolann told us about Mike the Bear. Myrna fleshed out the story, our mystery had been solved. Mike the Bear was a Mascot of one of the ships. He had passed away and was buried over in the left hand corner of the cemetery. Mike the Bear, we are so happy that you made your presence known to us. We hope to visit you again and Sherry would love to take your picture. http://cvparanormal.com under the EVP’s.
We said our good nights to Paul with a promise to see each other at the Moss Distillery in June. We met some really nice people on the investigation who were very excited to show us around and tell us the history of the area. Another Special Thanks is owed to the gentleman who took us on the driving tour to another bunker up the hill. The view was spectacular. Thank you so much for the experience. We piled into cars and drove a mile and half up the hill. What a beautiful ride. The CVP team piled in the back of Joey’s truck , a chilly ride but well worth it. The bunker sat on the top of the hill and was made up of one very big room with a sloping roof. I felt the presence of three individuals who felt like they had been workers there. I was trying to capture the workers with the FLIR camera and was feeling that they were watching us and intrigued with our presence. I was walking around with the camera in one hand and a K-2 going off in the other when one of the other investigators advised me it was going off. I went back to the same location only to ask questions and get answers. I asked “Are you the ones that have been watching from the door? “ with the meter lighting to yes. Dave was filming when we had the orbs moving and disappearing while in flight. There were no bugs in the area. Confirming the 3 presences, Sherry consistently caught three orbs, 1 large and 2 small in her photos. These orbs would move around the room, go in and out the door. And just generally made themselves known as intelligent orbs. This is a link to view Sherry’s photos http://photobucket.com/MareApril142012

We left the bunker to go to the top of the hill where you can see all around the island. It was so beautiful to see all the lights of the towns and on the bridge. Also this was 1st marker put in place when the property was surveyed in the 1800’s. We were surrounded by a licorice tasting and scented plant known as anise. There are benches to sit and enjoy the view of the Carquinez Bridge, the towns of Crockett and Vallejo were beautiful with the lights. We also were able to watch the Ferry coming in. It made me so happy that CV Paranormal was able to be a part of such a great experience. We headed back to the historical center and bid everyone farewell and see you soon.
Now on to the next one.
