Downtown Martinez Ghost Walk
By Crystal Willitt
Central Valley Paranormal & Downtown Martinez Join together to bring
“ Downtown Martinez Ghost Walk.”
First meet Central Valley Paranormal a Premier female lead team. The team is based out of Martinez California. They seek out allegedly haunted locations; authenticate evidence of spirits, research ghost stories, urban legends, sightings and conduct investigations into paranormal activity. Crystal Willett (founder) of the team states that she has always been interested in the paranormal her entire life. Crystal a sensitive, and of Cherokee heritage, states that she comes from a family of helping others with spiritual being. She states that her husband (Chris) was new to this but is very supportive and is now right beside her with understanding. She wants to help others with understanding and to help get the answers that they might be searching for.
Crystal states that we always have to remember that spirits do not perform on command. They may communicate in different ways. Some ways of communication is with the digital voice recorder, dowsing rods, but also they may send a sign of us smelling perfumes, cigar smoke can be just a distinct message. The CVP team has many pieces of equipment voice recorders, emf detectors, spirit voice box, full spectrum camera, just a few of what they carry. She also states they are not “ Ghost Busters “ and do not claim to be experts in the paranormal, as no experts exist when it comes to the paranormal, no matter what anyone may claim or they claim to be one. The team has investigated private residences, businesses. They have traveled to many locations in California and Nevada, going from Virginia City, and Mare Island. Crystal has wrote many stories and will continue hoping to also complete a book of the investigations she has completed. CVP consists of 7 team members volunteering their services.
One topic that is growing in popularity is anything that says “paranormal.” Some people are simply fascinated with ghosties, ghoulies and all things that go bump in the night. Over the past few years, I have been on a few ghost tours in different states and cities and while all were fun and entertaining, there was something more I wanted but was missing. Then I figured it out. Where was the history? What was the area like back then? Who were the people that lived here? How old were the buildings the ghosts haunted? What was living in that long ago time like? I want to make sure that we not only thrill people with scary stories but take them on a journey into the past. Unfortunately, most ghost tours do not delve deep into the hands on, only the supernatural to thrill and scare the audience. I have always been a history buff; and, I have always loved ghost stories. We have always in the past talked about doing a ghost tour. Then the day came when my husband Chris Willett lifelong friend Joey Simeao went into Downtown Martinez to pay for entry for the car show. He spoke to the director about CVP, then, almost by divine intervention, along came Leanne Peterson ( Director of Downtown Martinez). This is when we all came together and collaborated on how and when to get the Downtown Martinez Ghost Walk in place.
Ghost Walks run the 4th Friday each month & 5th Friday in June, August and November. Tours begin at 8:00 pm. It is $25 per person. It is a 1-1/2 guided tour. Minimum age is 12-17 years accompanied by an adult. Most children simply will not enjoy just hearing someone talk but will be bored and perhaps get a little antsy. These Walks are not meant to be scary. Nothing is going to jump out and scare people, no blood, vampires or ghouls and no props such as extra body parts along the way. There are other really great attractions in the area during the month of October for the scary stuff.
Crystal says Thank you to Leanne, who has given them a opportunity to show everyone what they do and love; thank you to all the stores, businesses, and people that were interviewed. She couldn’t have done it without all your cooperation and assistance. A special thank you goes out to her team members Sherry Anderson, Joey Simeao and her husband Chris Willett for all their time and effort. KERRY VIENS STORY:
May 20, 2012, Sunday. Meeting time: 6:30pm – the time of the solar eclipse. Location: Starbucks 6711 Madison Avenue, Fair Oaks, CA. Before this meeting stopped by Shannon McCabe’s house to collect $100.00 from the Ione Hotel venture and chow down some watermelon that she offered me. Headed up to Starbucks and was curious on the angel story that Kerry would tell me. Bought her an iced tea and listened to her story. Kerry claims that at her Fair Oaks home, in the middle of the night, with her baby crying she saw a flash of light that flew by the entry hallway. Since she was startled by the light, it actually prevented her from stepping on the cat in the stairwell and tumbling down the stairs. She feels the streak of light was an angel that saved her life.
