George's Hideaway
BLURRED LINES: With the paranormal, there are hardly any certain answers on what is and what is not paranormal. This is a quest in which we seek so many answers. With the paranormal there are so many 'blurred lines'. Now let's hear the new Robin Thicke song Blurred Lines: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyDUC1LUXSU
Date to be there: June 22, 2013, Saturday Time to be there: 9pm: Location to be at: George's Hideaway, 18100 Hwy 116, Guerneville, CA - Read about it here: http://forums.jazmaonline.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=5288
UP CHUCK CHARLIE AKA COWBOY: Received this email the other day. "Paul, I noticed on Facebook, you will be investigating George's Hideaway in Guerneville, please let me know how this investigation goes, since I have been there 3 times. Love that place. Let me tell you about an experience I had. One time when I was out there, I went outside for a cigarette with a friend; it was about maybe 9pm. My friend and I saw this guy, in a cowboy outfit, cowboy hat and everything. He was vomiting. I approached him and asked him if he was okay. He turned and looked at me and then vanished before my very eyes. I was scared as all hell and my friend and I jumped in my car and sped out of there. To this day, we still talk about it and my friend calls him Up Chuck Charlie. Have you heard anything about this ghost?? Let me know, you can call me at 530 xxx xxxx. Wayne Johnson." Sidebar: There was a cowboy looking patron that frequented this bar, his name was 'COWBOY'. The apparition that you saw is most likely the ghostly character referred to as Cowboy.
STARTING POINT: Starting point for this investigation is my house. Meeting me at my house at 12pm are: Donna Arleth Anderson, Researcher; Tracy 'Tre' Lindstrom - HPI Chronicler; Shari Aresta - Lead Investigation - EVP Queen - Videographer. Headed down to the investigation straight from their homes are: Jon Koyasako - Lead Investigator / Security; Larry Baty - Webmaster / Technician.
Donna Arleth Anderson, Researcher Discovers the Following Info:
MAYS CANYON ROAD LONELY LADY On Mays Canyon Road, a woman is seen walking down the road at night. Her description matches that of a woman who got run over on the road. There have been many reported sightings. The first sighting was in 1991.
In 1867, Mr. Guerne, a Swiss immigrant founded Guerneville. Mr. Guerne stated the first saw mill. In 1874, Mr. Donahue started the railroad project; he wanted the railroad to go through Guerneville, which was never completed due to non-payment. Mr. Guerne came to the rescue and eventually financed the rest of the railroad in 1877. First settlers were the Kashaya Indians.
Shelley Mueller, Waitress In Her Own Words Describes: At the foray I can feel cold spots and it can be 100 degrees outside. When this occurred, I got chills all over me and I can’t explain it. When I go outside, I am compelled to look up into the windows and one day, I captured orbs on the 2nd floor. On one night, my friend and I thought we saw the curtains moving on the 2nd floor window. With my peripheral vision, I sometimes think I see darting figures. I have to mention on another night, I noticed a light on the 2nd floor and no one could have gone up there, the 2nd floor was locked.
Diane Spain, Manager In Her Own Words Describes: I met Evelyn Ripken in the late sixties, early seventies. She and her husband owned Ripkens, now George’s Hideaway. They actually lived in the dining room. She was a great storyteller and often talked abut her ghost Rudolph. She said that he had followed her over the years from place to place. I experienced Rudolph after the bar was sold to Angie. As a bartender, I could hear him walking down the hallway upstairs. He would also flush the toilet regularly. I even had it checked but there was nothing wrong with it. He wasn’t scary or did any harm but he made sure we knew he was here. Evelyn also used to come to the senior center where I worked. I helped her towards the end of her life. Rudolph stayed here after the bar was sold, but he seemed to disappear about the time Evelyn died. When Evelyn sold the bar to Angie, she insisted that the bar would always belong to her. Two women from the Bay Area had hand-carved it. There was an ongoing feud as to whom it belonged to although they remained friends.
When the workers here, sensed a presence, I said I bet it was Evelyn just letting them know she was still in charge. The things falling and disappearing, would be the way Evelyn would handle things, if she didn’t like something, she would get rid of it or even knock it over.
Deb McGauley, Co-Owner of 3/Ps (Phil’s Pot Pies / Comfort Food Station) Describes: When we first took over the restaurant, we redecorated and repainted. We were here odd hours of the day, early morning to night. This place used to be a brothel, so for a lark, I put up some campy pictures of women on the walls. The posters of campy women were sprayed onto thick foam boards and Evelyn the Ghost would mess with this one poster, because every morning, the poster was partially ripped off the foam board. The reason why we believe Evelyn was doing this, is because the woman in the poster looked like one of her non-associates that she did not get along with, named Ginger. The 8th time after repairing that one poster, I got frustrated and yelled ‘Evelyn, you b-----!’ After that it never happened again. Lately, the activity has mellowed out. Now that the place has been sold, the activity has decreased.
David Campbell, Buyer of George’s Hideaway Describes His Experiences: I happened upon The Hideaway 23 years ago as I was driving to the coast. At that time I never imagined one day I would be starting this amazing adventure to restore The Hideaway to its original glory! In May 2013, I walked inside to assess the possibility of the restoration and immediately fell in love with not only the structure but also the “sense” of some presence from beyond. I soon heard stories of Evelyn Ripken and her husband William Ripken. I embarked on a journey to learn as much as I could. I began to spend a lot of time alone at The Hideaway and experienced first hand some activity that could not be explained. On my third visit I noticed the “Parking” sign swinging with an extreme force. I walked over to the sign and began to record video of the movement. It should be noted that there was no wind what so ever. After a few moments I spoke saying “Evelyn are you there?” and that everything is ok, and the sign began to slow down. I also felt a very cold “air” surround me. I reached up and stopped the sign from swinging to see what would happen and it did not continue to move. About a week or so later I was the last person to leave and walked around to make sure the premises were secured, everything was in order. The next morning I was the first person here and opened the doors up and as I went to check the restroom there was a poster placed in the men’s room in the sink in a peculiar manner as well as a picture frame placed in the corner almost delicately positioned. The air was very chilly and had a feeling of electricity. I hung the poster and the picture back in their places. That same day the juke box started to play without anyone touching it, I assumed it was an electrical issue. The juke box has done this several times since and I have been working on adjusting the settings to see if there is any indication of electrical malfunction, so far I have not discovered any issue with it. On four occasions I have heard voices and caught movement in the corner of my eye and no one was in the building. Regularly I speak out to reassure whoever may be here that all is well and we have the best intentions with this glorious historical landmark. Part of our restoration effort is to create a history wall of many newspaper articles and photos of previous owners and patrons from years past. We have many to hang up for all to view and keep the history alive. We embrace the wonderful activity and look forward to learning more!
Cheryl Sundberg, Acting Manager Describes an Incident Via Video: Cheryl talks about what happened to Stevie. See video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Tr0DIJvmWo&feature=youtu.be
Donna Anderson, Psychic Medium States: My experience actually started a couple nights an ago with 2 visits from a tall man in a black cowboy hat. He had indentations in his face and he was quite angry. I could tell he was yelling at me but I could hear no sound. I didn’t know what it was related to until tonight’s investigation. The description matched that of a man who resided here named Cowboy. I went upstairs where there were rumors of a brothel that once was ran up there. I sensed a short older man that was heavy in weight. He was very intimidating and really didn’t want me here. He was very mean and I felt like he didn’t like women very much. I went to the second location which was a building that people had resided in. I felt an old woman’s presence. She was short about 5 ft 2 inches talk and overweight. She wore glasses. She was ornery and stubborn. She would be a person who would take the shirt off her back if you needed it, but reminded you every day that she did it. I also felt a presence of a mid 20’s female with reddish brown hair that died suddenly. I felt that she knew the other woman but died along time ago. I also got a stench of rotted or burnt flesh. Larry also smelled this scent. It lasted only a few seconds. This little bar has a lot of history and a lot of ghost and spirits. There is also a lot of residual energy.

Special Note: The drivers to this location were Larry Baty – passenger Jon Koyasako. I drove, my passengers were Tre Lindstrom, Shari Aresta and Donna Anderson.
THE FIVE MAIN GHOSTS OF GEORGE’S HIDEAWAY ARE:
PHANTOM WAYNE: Wayne was a crusty old guy that lived in a trailer out back. He frequented the establishment and was drunk all the time.
NOISY EVELYN: Former owner, that likes to toss things around, if she doesn’t like those things.
RUDOLPH THE FOLLOWER: Rudolph no one knows where he came from, but he would follow Evelyn around, during the time she was alive.
UPCHUCK CHARLIE AKA COWBOY: This is the report of the ghostly cowboy that was vomiting, as reported to me by email. It was verified by the manager, that there was a man that frequented the bar, called Cowboy and he would get drunk all the time. He would have been the type of person that would get sick and vomit.
MYSTERIOUS EDGAR: In the dining area, we capture a Class A EVP and the entity identifies himself as Edgar.
EVIDENCE BRIEFING: Midnight: We captured two EVPs, one was a breath noise and the other was a ‘shhhhhhhh’. We are capturing strange light anomalies and orb activity. Note: Orb activity is not proof of the paranormal, unless you can show that it has intelligent movement. If intelligent movement is detected, then the orb is classified as a ‘spiritual containment field’. At 1:00am, the place picks up with activity. Jon captures what sounds like someone inhaling a cigarette. I captured a Class A EVP, in which the entity identifies himself as ‘Edgar’. Shari captures an EVP in which is a full sentence and the last word is my name ‘Paul’. 1:10am: We capture two EVPs, one that sounds like a door squeaking and that was captured outside. The other EVP, the voice says with a deep male tone: ‘David’. Special Note: To conduct a proper investigation, we need more time to investigate. The establishment gave us limited time.
THANK YOU: Thank you to the establishment for providing us with coffee. Thank you to Shari Aresta for the homemade cookies. Thank you Shari, Donna & Tre for the $52.00 for gas!
