HAUNTED TURLOCK
In the 1980s there was an old boarded-up, two-story farmhouse on the south side of West Tuolumne road between North Tully and US 99. This was before the days of Wal-Mart, Target and Oak Park apartments. Thus, West Tuolumne road was still a lonely country road where high school kids went to drink, make-out and spin donuts in their cars at the dead-end near the freeway. The creepy looking house, nicknamed “Hell House,” sat boarded up about 40 yards off the road behind a high fence. On weekends, high school kids would dare each other to run up to the porch or even try to get inside. The interior was mostly empty except for trash left by random trespassers. The stairway was located inside a narrow door and wound its way upstairs where the only piece of furniture was a heavy wrought-iron bed with what appeared to be a bloodstain on a mattress. The legend says that a woman killed her children and then herself on the bed.

Somewhere around 1987 the house was purchased and moved about a mile away and renovations begun. Shortly thereafter the house burned down. When it was moved there was a front-page picture in the Turlock Journal that mentioned something along the lines of “legendary haunted house moved to new location.” The house was built in 1913 by a ship captain named Barnes who used wood from an old ship for construction.

TURLOCK HISTORY
Deanna Jaxine Stinson and I, explored the city of Turlock, a town that was founded in December 22, 1871. The town of Turlock got its name after the construction of the Central Pacific Railroad. The main station was named Turlough. Turlough was a town in County Mayo, Ireland and from there is how Turlock got its name. Turlock was incorporated into a city on February 15, 1908. Turlock is mostly a agriculture town and became known as the ‘heart of the valley’ because of its agriculture production. Ripley’s Believe it or Not (a publication that I am in, for dancing 205 hours non-stop disco dancing – I kid you not) cited Turlock as having the most churches per capita in the whole US. There were many ethnic churches, like for the Sikh Gurdwaras, Christian Assyrian, Protestant, Mormon and Roman Catholic. During the attack on Pearl Harbor the US Government placed many Japanese-Americans into internment camps all across the country. The Stanislaus County Fairgrounds became the site in Turlock that held over 3000 Japanese Americans. Many citizens see the residual haunting effects of Japanese-American prisoners from this internment camp. One of the most haunted sites in Turlock is Chitactac-Adams County Park. This park is the site of an ancient Native American burial ground, the park contains trails where visitors can view ancient rock carvings. Some folks have reported that when they drove past the park at night, their car air-conditioners suddenly turned on and blew a blast of cold air. Clayton O’Harris says that in the older section of Turlock that he and his 3 friends were walking the dogs late at night and came across a flying yellow orb. They watched the yellow orb go behind some nearby shrubbery. The yellow orb started to take shape of a large black dog. The black dog had fierce red eyes and it’s fangs glistened in the glow of the moonlight. The large black dog stared Clayton and his friends down and seemed to growl, but they could not hear any growling noise. Clayton and his friends were petrified with fear and then as soon as it came, the black dog dissipated into nothingness, never to be seen again. What was the Black Dog of Turlock? Was it a demon, was it residual energy from a time long ago or was it a ghostly dog seeking out its master? Will the Black Dog of Turlock ever be seen again?

COLIN REED OF MODESTO TALKS TURLOCK
Email from Colin Reed. "Hi Paul, I have been independently ghost hunting for 5 years, I tried to start a group called The Ghost Foot Soldiers and it fizzled. Thank you for telling me that you are headed out for Turlock. Yep, Turlock is pretty haunted. Moose Lodge is haunted by a ghost called Dapper Don. Dapper Don was a member of the Moose Lodge and loved it so much that he came back to the lodge after he died. The most severe thing he did was knock over some cups one day. Dapper Don also used to blow hot air into the air of any woman sitting at the bar. There hasn't been any reports on Dapper Don for awhile, so either he went into the light or Moose Lodge members are keeping hush hush about it. I guess you will find out if he is still around. My uncle was a member of the Moose Lodge. If you have time to investigate Modesto where I live, I can show you and Deanna a few places, I know you have been here before." SPECIAL NOTE: While investigating Moose Lodge, I did capture a lot of orb pics and before Emily Cortez 60th Birthday party began with the Mariachi band, I did get an EVP of a garbled voice, I captured this in the restroom bar area. The private residence, Deanna and I captured no EVPs, but we did capture some shadow type anomalies and of course those damn orbs. The photos cannot be displayed, because the occupant does not want the inside of his home shown. Paul. Now to Colin's email: "Good luck Paul and Deanna, I know you will find Turlock fascinating and if you have more time, I would like to do an investigation of Turlock with you and your team. Colin"

BELOW ARE HPI UPDATES, NEWS AND GOSSIP!

HAUNTED SAN CARLOS STORY
Dear Paul,
This happened many years ago.
I was living in San Carlos, Ca. My developmentally disabled neighbor had a little cat. She was black and white. We named her "Cookie." Cookie never walked anywhere, She would trot 4 steps and stop. She movements were almost like a squirrel. "Cookie" was an outdoor kitty. I had her spayed and her shots, etc. So she was technically "our" cat. But we always said, "Cookie is Dina's cat." It made her feel so proud that she had a cat. We had a shelter fixed up in a shed for the cat and she was warm and well fed. Safe from the outside elements.

One night there was a terrible storm. Lots of rain. Many down pours. The next morning Dina came running over to my house crying that she had found her Cookie dead on the side of the house. I accompanied Dina over to her house. Yes, Cookie had indeed passed away. I took a look at Cookie and she had a very strange look on her face. Her eyes relayed a message as if she said, "What did I do?" I have never seen a cat with a look on its face like this. Well, we had a little burial ceremony in my backyard for Cookie. May she RIP.

Soon after, I began to notice a flicker of light down the hall and to the north side of my living room by my TV. It was just a "flicker" or an orb that would catch my eye. This went on for about one month. One evening, my adult daughter Jessica said, "Mom, have you noticed a strange little light in the house?" I said, "What kind of light?" She replied, "Just a little flicker of white light down the hall by my bedroom and by the TV in the living room. "What do you think it is?" I said, "Our house is pretty stable so imagine its Cookie who is stuck and doesn't know which way to go."

So we had a little candle and water ceremony and asked Cookie to "go to the white light where she would be happy and warm and safe and loved." We never saw the white light again after the ceremony. I guess "Cookie" went home to the white light.

That's just one of my stories.
Another story is that my Mother and her little black cat, "Baby" lived with me. Baby slept with my Mother. She followed her around. They were inseparable. Baby had nothing to do with me. She was my Mother's cat, period.

In about Feb 2006, Baby began to withdraw from my Mother. She would sleep on the foot of her bed but not on her like she had. I thought maybe she was ill but she ate well and drank. She jus began to distance herself away from my Mother. My Mom even said to me, "I don't think Baby likes me anymore. She won't climb on me like she used to or follow me around." I told her "You know how cats are."

It was 6 months later in August 2006 and Baby had totally stopped going into my Mother's bedroom. She absoultely avoided her and began to become very friendly with me. She wanted to lay on my lap all the time. Very unusual behavior for an adult cat.

On August 17th, 2006 my Mother passed away in her sleep. "Baby" has never entered that room again. you put her on the bed she runs out of the room. She has now become my cat. I now know to read the signs of an impending separation. I learned this from "Baby" my Mother's little black cat.
