When I lived in San Bruno, going to Oceana High School in Pacifica, CA, there was a ghost story that went around our school that I thought was fascinating.   I am not sure if there is any truth to it, but the story goes....

In 1968 a married couple named Thomas and Kathleen that lived in Vacaville, CA went to Daly City, CA.  Kathleen had some important papers that she needed signed at some building near St. Francis Blvd in Daly City.  When Kathleen arrived at the building, she told her husband Thomas to wait in the jeep.  Thomas waited, but to his surprise coming up the street was his old friend from high school named Eugene.  Thomas and Eugene shared some stories and played catch-up.  While they reminisced about the good old days, Eugene brought out a stainless steel flask filled with whiskey and some joints.  Thomas got a nice buzz from the shots of whiskey and smoking a few joints with Eugene.  When Kathleen came out of the building, she was mortified seeing her husband wasted like that.  Kathleen was infuriated and started yelling at Thomas. Eugene walked away, he did not want to get into this squabble.  Kathleen had Thomas jump into the jeep and as soon as he did that, she sped off.  Thomas was holding onto the dashboard as tight as he can, because his door was not closed properly.  Thomas asks Kathleen to please pull to the side of the road and allow him to close the door.  Kathleen finally pulls over and Thomas jumps out, to stretch his legs.

Kathleen screams at him..."I thought you said you were going to close the door?!"  Kathleen who is in a rage drives off leaving Thomas on the side of the road.  Thomas did not have his wallet with him and had no money for a taxi.  Thomas starts walking and asking strangers to direct him to the Oakland Bay Bridge.  Thomas felt like he had walked forever and he felt he was walking in circles.  At one point he climbed a steep hill and fell on the street from exhaustion and being dehydrated.  He looked over the side where he fell and saw a 50 foot drop.  He could have easily fell to his death.  Thomas tried hitchhiking, but did not have any luck getting a ride.  He looked like a desperate man and no one wanted to pick him up.  Thomas eyed a security guard and asked the security guard..."how do I get to the bay bridge?"  The security guard started telling Thomas, when all of a sudden a woman ran up to the security guard and accused Thomas of trying to steal something from her.  The security guard sent Thomas away and threatened to arrest Thomas if he were to show up again.  Thomas had now been walking for hours and wasn't making any progress finding the bay bridge, he collapses and an ambulance takes him to the hospital.  Thomas had a heart attack and dies in the emergency room.  It is reported that people driving in the St. Francis Blvd area of Daly City will sometimes see a hitchhiker and when they pull over, the man says..."I need to get to the bay bridge" and then fades away.  The ghost of Thomas is still trying to reach the bay bridge so he can get home.  When I was in high school and hearing this story, I had to check it out for myself and hoped to run into Thomas.  I went to that area probably 6 times and never found Thomas.

A school friend named John Hester claims that he ran into Thomas late at night and saw a ghostly figure of a man hitchhiking.  John Hester said he could see right through him and knew it was the ghost of Thomas and sped out of there, like a bat out of hell.
