When I was a professional dancer in Sacramento and for a short time held the Guinness Book of World Records for disco dancing 205 hours, I was offered after my marathon dancing to go to Hollywood and try out for the movies Roller Boogie and Skatetown U.S.A. Mind you, at the time in 1979, I was a professional dancer and not a paranormal investigator, but I was still very interested in the paranormal. So, when I headed out to Los Angeles to become a big disco dancing star, I decided to stay at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The reason being is that it had a reputation of being haunted. I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and the rest of my nights I stayed at my uncle's house in San Bernardino, CA. During my stay at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, I heard that there were many celebrity ghosts at this hotel. So, I hoped I would experience something paranormal. On my second night at the hotel, I woke up at 2 a.m. and heard what sounded like people applauding. I tip toed down the hallway to see where the applauding was coming from and couldn't find the source. I don't know if I dreamed about people applauding, or if I actually heard applauding. Who would be applauding at 2 a.m.? I later learn that the first Academy Awards ceremony was held at this hotel and I wondered if I heard the residual applauding of that ceremony from 1929?

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel opened in 1927. Marilyn Monroe did her first photoshoot at the hotel's pool. Montgomery Clift stayed in Room 928 for three months, while filming From Here to Eternity. Montgomery is one of the active ghosts. Montgomery likes to tap people on the shoulder. Sometimes you can hear Montgomery's ghost playing the bugle. Ghost hunters that have stayed in Room 928 say that their batteries drain immediately. The hotel had its share of celebrity guests, some of those notable hotel guests are Charlie Chaplin, H. G. Wells, Clark Gable, Max Baer Sr., Carole Lombard, Mary Martin, F. Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Mike Posner, Prince, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

On my third night at the hotel, I was exhausted and fatigued from doing try outs for American Bandstand and the Gong Show. I was rejected from American Bandstand, because they said I was too old and I was rejected from the Gong Show, because they wanted my dance routine to be funny. In the middle of the night, I heard knocking at my door. I went to open the door and there was no one there. Then I heard a knocking once again and there was no one there. Come to find out, many guests have experienced these mysterious knockings at their door.

Some of the stories of ghostly activities at this hotel are the following:

1. It appears that all of the receptionists that worked at this hotel have received mysterious phone calls from rooms that have no occupants. Sometimes there sounds like someone is giggling on the phone.

2. In one of the rooms, guests and employees of the hotel have heard the sounds of a typewriter. The sounds mimic a person typing on an old type of typewriter.

3. Here is one that I missed, and I learned about it later. There was a tall mirror in Marilyn Monroe's suite and people that have looked in the mirror have seen the image of Marilyn Monroe behind them. Sometimes they will see a moving shadow behind them, and they wonder if that could be Marilyn. Marilyn actually lived for 2 years at this hotel. The mirror has now been moved into the lobby of the hotel.

4. Legend has it that a little girl drowned in the pool named Carolyn. Some guests claim that they see Carolyn either by the pool or running around various hallways.

5. Some guests have seen a man dressed all in white walking around the hallways. No one has been able to identify this mysterious ghost.

The Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel is one of the most haunted hotels in Los Angeles. When you walk into the lobby, it almost feels like you are stepping back into time. As I approached the receptionist, I felt a tingly sensation on my arms and back of my neck. I must say that this hotel is probably one of the most paranormal active hotels in the United States.
