The first source is a unknown blogger that worked as a correctional officer for 18 years (State & Federal) and is very familiar with Angola Prison aka Louisiana State Penitentiary aka The Bloody Bayou Alcatraz. The second source is from a former inmate nicknamed "Maddog" that served time in Angola Prison. At one time Angola Prison was known as the bloodiest prison in America. Back in the 1830s, they had an old-slave-quarters on the property and the property was known as the Angola Plantation. Inmates from various jails in Louisiana were taken to the plantation to work the fields. It wasn't until 1901 that the State of Louisiana recognized the property as a prison. Cruel and vicious things would happen at this prison. Some model inmates became "turn-keys". Turn-keys were allowed to have weapons and did the job of a correctional officer. Some turn-keys were vicious with their fellow inmates. In one incident a turn-key saw that a smaller sized inmate was being picked on by a heavy-set inmate. Both inmates worked in the kitchen and the turn-key allowed the smaller sized inmate to boil some hot water and then pour it on the back of the larger sized inmate. The larger sized inmate screamed at the top of his lungs as his skin melted off his body. Two turn-keys had to drag him out of the kitchen and take him to medical staff. The inmate eventually died from his burns. According to Maddog, sometimes you can hear his screams. Maddog says that in the dormitory where all the bunk beds are, a weak-minded prisoner became the victim of many of the inmates, who dressed him up as a girl, placing make-up on his face and having him walk up and down the dormitory, where inmates could make bids for him, to have forced sex. The victim after a year of abuse by other inmates couldn't take it anymore and sliced his own throat with a shiv. Maddog says that at times inmates have said that when they look into a reflective object, they will see the face of the victim behind them. Some inmates believe that if you see the face of the victim, you become cursed and that curse can lead to you either becoming very ill, severely injured or facing death. One correctional officer who wishes to remain unidentified says that he was a correctional officer at Angola from March 1993 to March 2000. He has heard chains rattling, ghostly screams from inmates that are deceased. He claims that the lethal injection room is haunted and sometimes at night they will see the ghostly figures of inmates working the fields. He also claims that he almost on a nightly basis has heard the screams of inmates who have died. According to the blogger, the Louisiana Prison Museum where Gruesome Gurtie aka the Electric Chair is on display, is definitely haunted. Gruesome Gurtie has a lot of bad energy around it and is very haunted. Gruesome Gurtie took the lives of 87 inmates and the final execution on this electric chair occurred on July 22, 1991. When Gruesome Gurtie was in use, it was housed in a building known as the "Red Hat" cell block. According to many former correctional officers, the infamous Red Hat building is also haunted. Screams are heard from this building. Some of the most gruesome murders that happened at Angola are when a chain gang was working the fields, two inmates got into an argument. One of the inmates took his swinging ditch blade and sliced open the stomach of the inmate he was arguing with. Maddog says that when he was working the field he saw a bloody ditch blade lying on the ground and when he went down to pick it up, the blade vanished. Another gruesome murder was when staff found an inmate cut in half. The top half of the inmate was in the meat locker. His bottom half was found in a trash can. Maddog says that sometimes inmates will open the meat locker and see the top half of the inmate with blood splattered all over. Then the apparition will disappear. Inmates who have encountered this apparition, will run out of the kitchen screaming. Maddog says that Angola Prison, the Louisiana Prison Museum, the Angola Prison cemetery, the Red Hat Building is all haunted. Maddog says that Angola may be the most haunted prison in the world and if authorities ever close down this prison and allow ghost hunting groups inside, they will find so much paranormal activity it would be mind boggling. | |
