2/6/2024: Today, I got a message from a friend/fan named Ana-Marie Colon. She asked me if I knew anything about Mammoth Cave. Actually, I do, since I once visited this cave system. When I was stationed at Fort Knox, Kentucky, I visited the haunted Mammoth Cave National Park. I went with Sgt. Ritchie Maze who is originally from Lexington, Kentucky. Talking with Sgt. Maze, he told me about Mammoth Cave National Park and why it's haunted. I was all "ears". Maze says that when he was a child, he went with his parents and little brother to this cave system. Maze says as they were exploring the cave, he could hear a female voice telling him to get away from his parents and to "come here". Maze said it was a soothing voice and the voice was trying to entice him to go into the woods. Maze said if his mother was not holding his hand so hard, he would have followed the voice. When Maze got older, he asked his parents if they heard the woman's voice, and they said no. Maze was 7 years old at the time. Maze's brother was 12 years old, and he told Maze he never heard the voice. Maze doesn't know if he imagined hearing the voice, or if the voice was real. What is interesting, is that many people have wind up missing at Mammoth Cave Park. They were either never found, or they were found dead. Maze calls this entity Lady Enticement, and to the present day, Maze still has nightmares of hearing that soft soothing voice. Maze wonders what would have happened, if he had followed the voice?

The cave has a long history. It was at one time the home of Native American people. The Native American people would conduct ceremonies inside the cave. Later on, the cave was frequented by miners who sought out various minerals. A mummy was found on a ledge inside the cave. Visitors and tourists have seen strange lights inside the cave. The visitors and tourists have also heard strange sounds. One strange sound is the sound of multiple people coughing. Come to find out the cave was once a place that housed tuberculosis patients. The patients would stay in little huts inside the cave. A doctor thought this was a good way to cure the disease, come to find out, he was wrong. Dead wrong. Many patients died. There wasn't one patient that got better for staying in the cave. Slaves were at times housed in the caves. Tourists believe that the cave system and the National Park in whole is haunted by the spirits of tuberculosis patients and slaves. Many people have seen apparitions of spirits roaming the woods and the caves.

A famous ghost is "Old Lewis". Old Lewis was once a tour guide and explorer. He is seen walking around the cave entrance. Old Lewis was once a slave and the opportunity for Old Lewis to be a tour guide came around and Old Lewis was set for life. No more living the life of a slave, but now doing a job that he loved and enjoyed. Perhaps the most famous of Mammoth Cave’s reputed ghosts is that of its most famed “modern” explorer named Floyd Collins. Floyd Collins was a local in the area. Collins was credited for discovering Crystal Cave in 1917. In 1925, he was exploring nearby Sand Cave. While shimmying through a narrow opening, a large rock fell on his leg, pinning him in the small tunnel. The efforts to free Collins made national headlines. The rescuers tried and tried to free Collins, they were unsuccessful. Collin after being trapped for 2 weeks was found dead. His body was displayed at various locations as a gruesome tourist attraction. Collins was finally interred at the Mammoth Cave Baptist Church Cemetery. Collin's spirit is seen many times over inside the caves. Collins as a ghost continues to explore. Not only does Collins haunt the cave system, but he also haunts his grave site. Mysterious lights are seen in the windows of Mammoth Cave Baptist Church. When Sgt. Maze and I, visited Mammoth Cave National Park we did have one possible paranormal encounter. We heard whistling inside the cave. At the time we heard the whistling, there were no people at that location of the cave where the sound of whistling was coming from. With all of the people that say that Mammoth Cave National Park is haunted, I would have to believe them. There is too much history and tragedy at this National Park. Special Note: The Mammoth Cave system is the largest in the United States.
