A Haunting in Reno and a Stop at Donner Pass
By Paul Dale Roberts, HPI Ghostwriter

Before I get into my preliminary investigation in Reno, I just want to mention that a UK TV Series called 'A Conversation with a Serial Killer' by Two Four Productions actually came to Sacramento/Ione to film us (HPI) for their documentary. Shannon 'Ms. Macabre' McCabe was the guide through Preston Castle and conducted the seance at Vegas in Old Sacramento. I showed the Two Four Productions crew the actual murder sites of Richard Trenton Chase in Sacramento.
Richard was known as the Vampire of Sacramento. We were originally contacted by Two Four Productions, because they read my Leonard Lake/Charles Eng article, then they found my Richard Trenton Chase article and Shannon's story in regard to Haunted Sacramento. The HPI crew that assisted Shannon and I, along with Two Four Productions were: Holly DeLaughter, Jennifer Baca and Chris Grissom. Shannon showed her appreciation to the production crew, by having a
barbecue at her home, this is where they discovered I was the former disco king of Sacramento, when Chris Grissom & Shannon pushed me to show my old school talent to the crew, everyone had a good laugh. We finally ended the third day of filming by feasting at Joe's Crab Shack in Old Sacramento. Shannon and the Two Four Productions crew wanted me to make a fool out of myself one last time, so I danced with the Joe's Crab Shack employees. May 21, 2008 is a
day I will never forget, because it was our last day with Two Four Productions. In just 3 days, we all felt like family and it was a sad departure. Shannon & I, had to go back to reality, to our real jobs. For 3 days we were in the spotlight, but keep an eye on HPI, because we will be making more news soon!

Shannon wrote an exclusive story on Two Four Productions here:

HPI covers a lot of Northern territory with our investigations. We have gone as far north as Covelo and Mount Shasta. We have now covered the Eastern front with Reno, Nevada, with this latest investigation and as far south as San Jose, with the upcoming Winchester House investigation. Of course, we went to Santa Cruz a few times to investigate the Brookdale Lodge. We are now expanding with upcoming investigations to New Orleans to investigate Voodoo, zombies and ghosts, Mexico to investigate the Chupracabra and Aruba to investigate the phantom blonde haired woman ghost seen along the beach. A ghost
that some people believe is the murder victim Natalee Holloway.
This long Memorial Day weekend was pretty exciting. I got a call from a family member to head over to Reno, to take care of some family business. I thought to myself, if I am going to Reno, I remember a Reno paranormal investigator named Debbie Fisher that once contacted me about a haunted private residence. She had found me through my articles. I might as well kill two birds with one stone, so I called Debbie. She said she would make arrangements with the family to have me investigate. I decided to bring my two dogs with me. Pika (Jack Russell Terrier). Pika is a great paranormal investigator and a sensitive.
I also brought along paranormal-investigator-in-training HPI (pronounced Hi-Pee), a Corkie, half Cocker Spaniel & half Yorkshire Terrier. Debbie was bringing her sensitive, paranormal investigating dog, another Jack Russell Terrier named Cindy. So, the team consisted of: Paul Dale Roberts, Debbie Fisher, Pika, HPI & Cindy. What a team!
I meet up with Debbie and Cindy. Debbie briefs me about the family's situation. She tells me the following:
The family consists of a husband and wife and their 2 daughters and 2 sons. The family has witnessed a little girl sitting at the foot of the bed. The girl has been seen several times, sometimes she wears jeans, shorts or overalls. She has brown hair. There is usually a bow in her hair. The little girl seems like an intelligent haunting, because she has waved at one of the daughters and another time she smiled and pointed at the other sister and her friend. She seems to be aware of the family's presence.
Another entity in the home is that of an old lady. She is seen in a nightgown with blue flowers decorated on her nightgown. There is a boy that is seen, that wears overalls and has yellow & blue patches on his overalls.
The last entity is a woman that looks like a hooker, she is known to wear all black, black boots, she has her hair in a pony tail and seems to be seen a lot in the bathroom.
Debbie and I, stopped at Joe Bob's Bar to interview some of the people that live near and around this area, to get some history of the area. There was not enough substantial history to pin point what may have been causing this haunting in this area. We are still working on a historical overview of where this home is situated. We are keeping the home and the family confidential, to protect their privacy.
During the investigation, Pika and Cindy three times started barking frantically at locations of the house, where nothing was seen. Both Pika and Cindy seemed to circle an area where they could see something. HPI was unaware of any unusual disturbances as he seemed content playing with toys around the house. It makes me wonder if Jack Russell Terriers are more 'sensitive' than other dogs. During my investigation, the family, which I will call a high-tech family, because all of the children have their own laptops, the father is very, very knowledgable about computer software and other computer gadgetry was very warm with his generosity with Debbie and I. The dad of the house made sure Debbie and I, had dinner and cooked up steak, brockley and a baked potato for us. He also made sure the dogs were well-fed. On Sunday morning, when I was briefing the family the outcome of my investigation, they had pancakes waiting for Debbie and I. I want to thank this family for their munificent, openhanded unsparing generosity!
During the investigation, the children were in the house watching Family Guy, Boogeyman, Are You There Yet? They were also playing video games like Grand Theft Auto and Guitar Hero. So any EVPs that might be captured, I must make note on what possible background noises may have caused the EVP. Like if I hear a kid is saying 'are you there yet?', that may have been from the movie tract. Checking the EVPs during the time the children were still awake, I discovered there was too much background noise. When the family finally went to sleep, I found possible EVPs that sounded like: 'shhhhhhhh' and 'eh..eh..hey!' But, of course again, this could have been voices from one of the family members and I must dismiss my evidence as inconclusive.
During the late night investigation, there was strange noises being made throughout the house. I cannot determine if this might be the settlement of the foundation or perhaps the noises from some of the pets of this home. The family has a pet guinea pig and some pet rats. Sunday morning when I briefed the family, I was told that other disturbances is when the family has heard a baby crying and a voice saying...'it's okay Lindsay.' They have witnessed objects falling off the shelves and barrels. They have seen doors opening, or heard things fall down and they go into the room to clean up the mess and there
is no mess. A lot of times, things get moved around a lot in the bathroom according to one child family member. The weirdest incident according to the father of the house, is when a sugar bowl top flew off the sugar bowl and landed in an empty rat cage. Many strange photographs have been taken inside of the home of fast moving orbs and what may look like ectoplasm.
The only way I can properly investigate this home, is if the whole family was not present. I do believe this house may be haunted, but with various family routines that are conducted in the house, that may cause noise interference, I can only give the home an 'inconclusive findings' rating.
The entities of this home seem to be causing the family no duress and the family seems to be used to the haunting and welcomes the entities as if they are part of the family. This is a very loving family that is proud of a daughter that sings so well, she will probably one day become an American Idol contestant. All of the children are artistically gifted and quite technical savvy, something they picked up from their father and mother. I thank this family for inviting me to their warm, but haunted home.
As I drove back and recollected my thoughts, I looked at my dogs who absolutely enjoyed their adventure. For that long ride home, they enjoyed my kind of music such as Sledgehammer by Peter Gabriel, Electric Avenue by Eddy Grant and That Girl is Poison by Bell Biv Devoe. They might as well get used to my music too.
To end this investigation, I took HPI and Pika to parts of Sierra Nevada where the Donner Party met their terrible fate under snowbound weather conditions. In 1847, 87 California bound settlers got caught up in one of the worst storms in the Sierras. 39 settlers died and 48 survived. To survive, the survivors has to resort to cannibalism. While we were there to do a small investigation, it was raining, snowing and at one point of time hail came down. I tried to get some pictures of any residual activity, but with the weather being this bad in May, my pictures were inconclusive. I had some nice orb pictures
that I can explain away as real up close snowflakes. It was time to finish our trek home. This was HPI's first ghosthunting adventure. I will let HPI know, there will be more.
