The River: The Enigmatic Sacramento River

ABC has a new series out called The River. The story is about missing reality star/adventurer Dr. Emmet Cole. It tells how Dr. Cole was looking for magic along the Amazon River and some how turned up missing. Now his family, friends and associates are out looking for him. This is a supernatural thriller that will definitely keep you on the edge-of-your seat.

On February 7, 2012, Tuesday - the premiere of The River was aired and I was contacted by extraordinary man-on-the-scene news reporter Cornell Barnard of News 10. Cornell wanted to do a promo of the new series The River. Cornell wanted me out on a boat talking about the legends, stories, myths of the Sacramento River. Believe me there are many stories.

Have you ever heard of the Wetlash? Here is a story that happened along Garcia Bend:

There are many other stories. One story I enjoy is how 3 fisherman/campers along the river near Clarksburg had a warm fire going and then out of the thickets stepped out an odd looking fellow with wet clothes. The odd looking man asked if he could share the campsite with them. One of the campers looked at the odd man and said to him that the campsite is for them only and that he needs to move further down the embankment for a campsite. As the odd man with wet clothes went back into the bushes, they could hear the bushes rustling, then all of a sudden the rustling noise stopped. One of the campers suspected that the odd man was spying on them and jumped up and went into the thickets looking for him, he was no where to be found. He had simply vanished. The theory is that the odd man was a ghost. He was a drowning victim. Year took place: 1984?

There are many more stories about the Sacramento River, did you know about the Ryde Hotel? The Ryde Hotel sits right next to the Sacramento River and there are plenty of ghost stories at this hotel, which was the inspiration of the song Hotel California by the Eagles.

Read about the Ryde Hotel here:

Besides ghosts along the Sacramento River, there are unusual monsters. Would you believe that the Mothman was sighted on the Tower Bridge? Yes, there were witnesses to this story and you can read my initial report here:
http://www.sacramentopress.com/headline/4404/The_Mothman_Dilemma

In fact the History Channel's Monsterquest filmed a segment here in Sacramento, in which eye witness Mark Greer tells about his terrifying encounter with the Mothman. That segment can be watched here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RYmeBk0ynzU

Other monsters of the Sacramento River are a sea serpent that was seen floating down the Sacramento River in the Greenhaven area by 2 SMUD workers. Year of sighting: 1992. According to this website, large salamanders or eels have been seen at Folsom Lake and the Sacramento River, see here:
http://frontiersofzoology.blogspot.com/2011/10/giant-catfishes-and-other-lake-monsters.html

The La Llorona legend is repeatedly told throughout the world, usually by the Hispanic culture and the story is even told here in Sacramento, that a woman with her two children walked into the Sacramento River and killed her children and herself. Further stories of this legend is that swimmers in the Sacramento River will get tugged under the water, by the La Llorona woman ghost. But, this is only a legend.

Now, let's get away from the Sacramento River for a bit and talk about the American River. Any stories there? Yes, how about the ghostly boy that is seen walking along Paradise Beach at 3am? Many believe that this boy is another drowning victim.

Actually the American River has many stories to tell, but that would be another article altogether. So if you think the Amazon River is mysterious.....well, so is the Sacramento River.

Cornell and I could not find a boat for this news segment, so we had to cancel the shoot. Maybe next time....

BELOW ARE HPI UPDATES, NEWS AND GOSSIP!

DOPPLEGANGER EFFECT BY ARIANA MEJIA
IN ARIANA MEJIA'S OWN WORDS:
"One day I arrived home from work around 4 pm. I had stopped by the store and picked up some ice cream and other groceries prior to going home, as I opened the door, I put the bags down and looked up and saw my brother standing by the kitchen table, and as I said, "hey feo! I bought you some ice cream!" he ran towards the kitchen. Even though my brother was 19 at the time he does random things to just fool around so I didn't think anything of it and walked towards the kitchen table, I put my bags down and said, jesse quit acting stupid, and walked towards the walk in cupboard thinking my brother ran in there and when I opened the door nothing or nobody was there. Meanwhile, my other brother Julio was sitting on the couch the whole time and is staring at me confused, he then said, "Ari, who the hell are you talking to? I looked at him and said, jesse what right here, he ran here. Julio said, "jesses taking a ****, and as soon as he said that my brother cam out of the bathroom and said "hey!"

I told them what I saw and I know that it was my brother, he had my brothers hunched shoulders, the awkward gait, his fluffy hair, skinny jeans, and burgundy cardigan he was always wearing at the time, I knew I saw him! My brother julio was like, "there was nobody there Ari, is that why you were talking to yourself?" I couldn't get over the fact that I had seen my brother or something that looked like him, the first thing that popped into my head was doppelganger, it didn't scare me, it's was more amusing because I have never had a supernatural experience!"
